Earth quake update 14 June 1pm
A big thank you to all of the staff, children and parents yesterday for the amazing response to the earthquakes yesterday. I was down in Dunedin for a funeral and got back late last night and am extremely proud of every one for their efforts.
I have been through the school this morning and it appears there is only minor cracking. The plan is to have the school thoroughly checked and if all is OK to open as soon as possible. Hopefully this will be tomorrow but we will have to wait and see if we can be inspected today.
When school opens all children are to bring their own bottled boiled water.
Take care!

School Student Leaders
At the end of last week we announced our Club R3 leaders. Club R3 is our internal school club that promotes our school rule of being Respectful,Responsible Real Learners. To be a Club R3 leader students had to apply with a short video clip stating why they wanted to be a ClubR3 leader. The leaders are going to promote our school rule throughout the year and are going to be involved in a wide range of tasks. They have job descriptions and will meet regularly with me to discuss their progress. Here is an examples of one of the application videos;
We are excited about this new student leadership role in our school and are looking forward to watching them work over the year.

First day back after earth quake!
It was great to see everyone back at school today. There were a big group of parents who come in for a cup of coffee and biscuits and it was great to catch up with some of our Riccarton community. The children quickly settled down to learning and all classes have reported an excellent day. There were lots of smiles as children were leaving the ground which is a great sign. Caleb and Emma came in at lunch time and made some pop corn using a pop corn maker from a movie theatre. We also had a large game of tee ball on the front field.
The children were excellent at bringing their boiled bottled water. I can't wait for tomorrow and to see the school get back into full swing again.
